I never actually got to dedicate space and extensive words to my trip to Monterey last summer with Megan. I did mention it a bit briefly in my Summer ’20 wrap up, but as I am still wholly obsessed with the photos I took, and the happy memories of that day, I thought I’d share them here, and give them the time of day they deserve. Here are some Monterey Memories…

the lone cypress
Our first stop on the 17-mile Drive was to see the Lone Cypress. I remember the cool damp of the sea air, the brine getting into my hair, the clouds making for a deliciously grey morning.
further on…
Another memorable stop was near the Cypress Point Club. There were OTTERS lolling about on the rocks before us. I remember tracking one little guy in particular, who kept struggling to get up onto a rock that suited him. He’d finally wriggle his way onto the side of one, promptly roll off, and try all over again.

“white shores”
This, this right here, these are my favorite photos, and my favourite part of the drive. The sun was finally out, so the colours were far more vivid. It’s like the saturation was turned up. The white sand was striking against such blue water, and the yellow flowers, the dark rocks, and the snowy sea foam melded together into a poem you could see right before you.
capitola — lunch + wanderings
After we finished the 17-Mile Drive, we decided to head over to Capitola for lunch, and of course, we stopped at Gayle’s. All I remember is that I was very hungry, and that the food was worth the wait.
The healing power of food caused us to want to walk around a bit, so we drove to Capitola Village for a wee-bit of standing-in-the-sea-because-it-was-actually-getting-quite-warm and window shopping. The nicest woman gave us her parking stub when we got there, I should mention, and that just made our day! monterey memories
After trekking around here for a bit, we were ready to go home, and so off we went. We blasted One Direction on the way back, and shouting the lyrics was a great way to finish off a most lovely day.

I hope you enjoyed my Monterey Memories!! Have you ever been? I’d definitely recommend the gorgeous 17-Mile Drive on your next trip to this gorgeous place. Thanks for reading 🙂
P.S. For Steinbeck fans, Huckleberry Hill, one of the stops on the drive, is the location of the home in which he did the writing of some of his major novels. Robert Louis Stevenson also lived a few miles down the hill!
