Ah, February, you were short but mostly sweet. The pinnacle of the things I loved in the Feb ’20 Edit was certainly our 5-day getaway to Mt. Hermon, but there were definitely moments before & after that mid-month peak that were pleasant.
In the exciting leadup to February 14th, departure day, I took some lovely walks in the cool dusk or brisk morning breeze. Easing into the second month of the year wasn’t hard this way!
Mount Hermon: rest, walks, hikes, seaside rambles, rescued frisbees, & sips of coffee
My family & I planned this little excursion sometime in January, & it was lush in all the possible ways. Walks, hikes, & runs with views like these??? Bliss. The air is so clear, pure, and fresh up in the mountains. The hills make for hard uphill sprints but delicious downhill cooldowns. Hikes down to the flowing river, or up to Pancake Ridge, especially when I’m with my family, are grand.
There are so many cute little cabins nestled up there, and it’s so nice to walk past their little gardens & walkways as you make your way up the big hill.
After a few slices at Pizza-My-Heart, we drove down to Moran Lake Beach to stretch our legs in the sand & throw the frisbee around. Towards the end of this revelry, my dad threw the frisbee to my brother who was nearer to the shore. Andddd, the frisbee fell into the waves, much to our dismay. My brother made a lame effort to find it as we all chuckled with chagrin, but I was determined not to lose that gem of a frisbee so quickly. I ran into that water, pants only just rolled up, and managed to scoop that thing out before it got to far. It’s safe to say I was SOAKED from my shins down, but I SAVED THE FRISBEE, and it was fun, & salty, dripping pants really aren’t that big of a deal.
Gayle’s is one of my favourite spots in Capitola. Pastries, lunch, dinner, coffee, tea; it literally has everything, and allllll of it is scrumptious in the most heavenly way. Though we didn’t eat there this time round, we did pick up a spot of coffee on the way back to the cabin to warm ourselves after the cool, evening, briny air, & the exciting frisbee rescue :’) I tried the most righteous coconut milk latte, and I’m excited to have it next time!
I just adore the sea. So much so that I have written many words about it over the years. I won’t share some of that now, but just know that the moments spent near the ocean were, of course, my favourite ones.
Closing off the month & Leap Day!

Midterms were the unfortunate end of the month, bUt. I survived, and I started something exciting too: Lent. I’ve never observed it before; my denomination doesn’t, but as it’s not a theological conflict, I decided to give it a go! I want to truly focus on preparing for Easter & what it means. Giving things up in the process is a part of that in Lent, so I’m quitting Starbucks (not all coffee, just SB bc that’s my addiction), added sugars, sweets, & junk food. It’s been pretty challenging, but I’m getting my willpower back, and I’m discovering cute tea & coffee shops around town–so, win-win, eh? :’)
Leap Day was nice and laidback. I exercised, had a nice breakfast, spent some time with my dad, and worked in the backyard with my siblings. Even though I started to get a headache midway through the day, I downed more water and powered through to make sure I was still up for the sister-date Melody and I had planned a week prior. We went out for tea & coffee and had a nice evening. The evening was wrapped up with a night-in, eating dinner, & watching Sherlock with my siblings. So, all in all, this extra day was a wonderful time, with just the right balance of work & play!
How was your February?? Did you do anything fun or read/watch anything good? I hope you liked the photos from my Feb ’20 Edit of Things I Love (:
