This post is something of a tribute to my two-years long journal that I completely filled up last Friday (the 17th of July). I talked a little bit about this over on my Instagram, and I mentioned how I both started and completed my journal near the ocean. In fact, the journal I had before this most recent one was also begun at the beach. My best writing is generally fuelled by nature and those natural surroundings I find myself in. Thus, I am most proud of the words I have written when in these very inspiring places, so I thought I’d finally compile bits and pieces of my “seaside diaries” from the past four years!
date format is: day/month/year!!

…The waves are low today, grey against an even greyer sky. A misty, transparent fog hangs over, but high up. It is nearly noon, and the sun is nearing its high point in the sky.
much of this particular entry was dedicated to comically describing my family around me, so this is really the only good bit i got haha. AND HOW REDUNDANT IS THAT LAST SENTENCE HAHA *this was my first proper journal & its first entry*

…The sea was brisk, poignant, and strong. The wind is calm, though little bouts of a more extreme breeze often push through. Two massive and stunning American flags are flying to our right; they are majestic…
The sand is fine, tiny, minuscule jewels on the shore of the most loveliest of seas, the Pacific Ocean…
I am content.
i also named two seagulls this year, apparently. thomas and george. i wonder how they’re doing now…

It is just 20 minutes and an hour past noon, and I sit with the utmost delight under a bright sun, shrouded by clouds, surrounded by the most refreshing breeze there ever was, in front of the glorious sea.
so many prepositions. let’s just call it intentional literary device placement.
The sky is a vibrant blue; the water, a bit murky, is grey and green in hue. The sand is warm, and seagulls fly…
I can never say enough how much I truly love the sea. How I love this beautiful place! …
I close with this: I am very content, and I sit with Jane Austen—Pride and Prejudice–and soak up the cool breeze. I love the sea, I love the sea, I love the sea. God is good.

The sea, sun, and sand are absolutely gorgeous. It is quite hot; the sand emanates conditions like that of The Horse and His Boy. The breeze is strong but isn’t the type that ruins all. In front of me, the sea is roaring and is incredibly refreshing. Overhead, the sun douses me in a soft glow…
Today, we have come to the beautiful Pismo Beach, on a most sunny day, with the sparkling blue sea ahead.
I am most content at this time, with warm rays of sunshine hitting my body. Soon, I will venture back to the glorious Pacific Ocean for a refreshing “dip.”
All that remains in this day is to enjoy the beautiful view and bask in the beauty that is the sea.
“And oh, the cry of the seagulls! Have you heard it? Can you remember?”
also, there was a very hot dude in front of me at the time, and yes i did record that fact, but i shall not do so now :’) *this was my most recent journal & its first entry*

What joy it is to write! What joy it is, and ever has been, to sit beside the sea, upon the fine, soft sand of California’s coastline, drinking in the bliss of it all.
My heart revels in the salted air and dances in the brine of the ocean. The sun has shone his face; the clouds have retreated to hang far beyond the dunes, framing the horizon of the ocean, the blue sky is the wall they hang upon. Gulls fly overhead, swooping, alone and in groups, often soaring in straight lines or V-formations. The surf is low today, and the waves break softly upon the shore.
We prepare to be one with the sea. Whether or not we catch good waves, we will be one with the glories of the blue…
To think that Aslan’s country will have the real and true Pacific Ocean, what will be the real and true substance of this mere shadow, is unbelievable. How incredible that this shadow that we now think so beautiful will pale in comparison.
But for now, we are, and will forever remain, grateful for this, that which is before us, for it was endowed by our Creator at the very beginning of Time and the seas will not rise until He commands them on that day.

[This new journal] is christened in the briney air as before, and I sit in this now-familiar position and setting: on the sand, pen in hand, journal on lap, roar of ocean before me, shouts of seagulls overhead, and a golden, glistening sun settling on my skin.
Sand in my toes, my hair, my clothes. Dampness all around. The prospect of a new adventure just around the corner…
This day has been filled with exhilarating experiences; no doubt I will have one of the best sleeps ever tonight…

…It is a pleasant, cool-but-not-to-cold morning. We sit near the dunes, and we view the crashing of the waves before us, never, never, never ending. Up to there, and no more.
Gulls fly overhead, but they are silent, slowly sweeping and dipping over and above the sea.
The roar of the sea is like nothing else. Strong, steady, true. Enveloping the saltwater heart within its rise and fall.
Behind the glorious and everlasting din of the crashing waves is the steady roar of the ocean, something like a reminder, a warning, a call. Almost as if it wants to emerge, or an enunciation of the fact that it will emerge, one day, and one must be wary. And yet, it is also calming, peaceful, and serene. That surety, that steadiness is like an anchor in and of itself. Surely, that noise is part of what makes this calming atmosphere.
Green and grey foam; salty, briney, damp air; cool, soft sand; soft, sweet singing of some seabird. Peace and joy. Although I am already looking forward to my next return here, on this, our last day here, I do truly soak myself into this moment. I am part of the sand beneath, the sea before me, and that distinct, saltwater oxygen all around. This is home.

That’s it for my seaside diaries!! I think that one day I might also share some other, comparable, nature-inspired entries that I’ve written. I can tell that my writing (voice and overall ability) greatly improved from the first entry to the last :’) Still much to work on!!
Do you get inspired by nature? Does it show in your writing or other creative endeavours? I’d love to hear about that, if that’s the case for you!! If you read all of these entries, I <3 u very much
>> My friend Audrey shared a very sweet, similar post over on her blog this month, and it’s so WHOLESOME, so I heartily recommend that you read it!
