Ahhh January, another month come and gone. The longest month of the year & yet it flew by. How are we already in February already?? Yikes. Anyhow, I’d like to share some things I love: Jan ’20 Edit. (2020. Weird huh?)
Easing into the New Year
New Year’s Eve was a cosy blur of time between both of my grandmother’s homes. At one point, a few of us collectively decided we wanted Starbucks to get through to midnight, and we drove around to no avail. All Starbucks in sleepy Merced had shut down at least half an hour before we set out. We drove back to town and decided to stop at the little Dollar General, & they had a little fridge of Starbucks drinks. Who would’ve thought that the DG would come in the clutch like that?! :’)

Anyways, we started the year right with a Capirotada Night. It’s been an annual custom for my family to have our Pastor & his family over to make this traditional Mexican bread pudding, before or shortly after Christmas! It was a fun night, to say the least.

My brother & cousin were heading into their last month & a half of the basketball season, so while the month of prayer was going on at church, we were going to games after school/work, and heading to church as soon as they were over! January makes for a very busy & tiresome month because of this, but it’s a blessing.
I would squeeze in reading sessions in the intermediate periods of days like these, often by the car light as we waited to pull away, to and from school and church :’) Although January was a slow reading month, it was nonetheless full of 3 very enjoyable reads. (Oh how I love Tolkien & L.M. Montgomery!)
Getting into the swing of things
I took so many delicious walks in January–some in the cold, brisk air of the morning light, accompanied by sharp stabs of wind gusts, others in the warmer afternoon, when the light was falling softly and seeking to make me love January, and still others in the evening dusk, as cold sought to envelop me again, & as the hues of the sky turned from blue to purple–and at all times of the day, birds were chirping and robins were singing.
The last day of the old year was one of those bright, cold dazzling winter days, which bombard us with their brilliancy, and command our admiration but never our love. The sky was sharp and blue; the snow diamonds sparkled insistently; the stark trees were bare and shameless, with a kind of brazen beauty; the hills shot of assaulting lances of crystal…The only things that held their own individuality were the firs–for the fir is the tree of mystery and shadows, and yields never to the encroachments of crude radiance.

We celebrated my friend Erika’s 21st birthday at Cheesecake Factory, & the pasta I had was DIVINELY INSPIRED. I even treated myself to a spot of raspberry lemon cheesecake–I have no regrets because that tasted HEAVENLY. (Should have snapped some photos of my food, smh.)

Finally, I upped my photo-taking & have loads of pretty bookish snaps that I can’t wait to share here & on my instagram 😉 I had the most stressful session at Starbucks where I was under a time crunch & needed to down the ~hot~ coconut milk latte I ordered while simultaneously taking loads of pics, and it was delightfully successful!
Hope you enjoyed having a look at the things I loved from the Jan ’20 Edit 😉 How was your January? Did it drag on endlessly or did it fly by? Or both??? Felt like mine was right down the middle. I’d love to hear what the highlight of your January was (: <3
