It’s March. It’s March, and I still haven’t written up my reading goals for 2022. Oops. I’ve been wanting to ever since January 1st rolled around, but somehow, things have continued to get in my way, and I’m tired of that!!! I’m tired of saying I’m tired of that!!! This ends now: I am returning to the blog, and I’m going to finally upload the way I want to (consistently), and I’m gonna fill you all in on the year so far, and on a reading digest of the past year (even if it’s late), and upload the drafts and write the posts that have been tickling my mind for so long (sorry for the incoming influx). Anyway, onto the reading goals for the year because I’ve felt like I’m just floating by without any set in stone.
I’m not going to lie, I don’t see myself changing up my goals too much from last year’s. However, I’ll do a quick reiteration and talk about the tweaks.
Since I easily read 80/60 books last year, and my rule of thumb has been to increase my goal if I easily surpass my original goal, I’m now aiming for 70 books.
Classics
Aiming for 20-25 again this year!
- I want to pick up Russian classics this year, because I’ve been saying I’d do that for far too long now
- More Steinbeck this year!! Maybe a potential reread of East of Eden, hehe
- I’d like to get back to reading plays again: King Henry V & some Shakespeare, for sure
- I have some older lit anthologies & essay collections that I’d like to read from and then study a little and write about—this isn’t really a reading goal since it won’t go towards my Goodreads goal; it’s more for the expansion of my knowledge in the classics arena
- hit up Paradise Lost or one of the Antiquities bc I didn’t last year :’)

Non-fic & Theology
5 and 5 of each, again. I have some historical and current affairs reads on my shelves that I need to get around to, and as for theology, I know that I absolutely need to slowly work through the second volume of John Calvin’s Institutes that I picked up in SLO last summer. I’d also like to incorporate church history reads in this as well.
Monthly Reading Routines
Since 2020, at least for the first half of the year, I’ve been pretty consistent with picking up particular genres each month. For example, when it came to my goal to re/read WW2 titles on my shelves, I would alternate between a “new” read and a reread each month. I’ve got the same thing in mind for that particular “genre”, and I have a couple of other particulars:
- one childhood reread per month, until I’m ready to stop with that
- try to average one non-fiction/theology reread every two months
- one to two new fiction reads each month (aiming for 25 total this year)
- re/read WW2-related books, one per month
- one Sherlock Holmes read per month
2021 Leftovers
Les Mis. FOR THE LOVE OF THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY MUSICAL. I am DETERMINED to finish Les Misérables this year. 2020 saw me starting it, and it’s taken me far too long :’)
I re-started The Complete Sherlock Holmes last year and didn’t even come close to finishing it, so that’s on the agenda for this year.

Fin
That’s it!! I feel so much better now that I’ve finally written these 2022 reading goals up. It’s like my brain is clear now, and there isn’t a reading fog that I’m wading through day by day :’) I’ve been working with a theoretical monthly routine (^^) since the year started, and it’s given me some structure, but not enough haha. What reading goals do you have for 2022?! I’d love to hear about them!
