2021 Reading Goals

Another year, another set of reading goals! Last year was the first time I ever sat down and decided to make specific goals regarding my reading—before that, I would set my Goodreads goal & not think too much about it. I like that approach as well, but since I’d like to continue to expand my reading horizons, I’m going to write reading aspirations every year for the foreseeable future! Here are my 2021 Reading Goals…

I’m once again aiming for 60 books, since I read 65/60 pretty easily last year. If I manage to somehow read 70 easily, I’ll make that my goal for 2022. (This was my train of logic when I hit 60/50 back in 2019. If I easily get 10 over my goal, that’s when I’ll raise it!)

Classics

I read 21 classics easily in 2020, so I’m going to aim for anywhere between 20-25 classics in this new year. There are a few specifics I already know I’ll be reading, so I’ll share them now:

Ideally, I’d also like to give my best shot at The Odyssey, so I can finally start with the Antiquities, and I really want to read Paradise Lost. However, I’m trying to remain realistic, thus, I’m not exactly sure about when/where I’d read those two!

Non-fic & theology

Once again aiming for at least 5 non-fiction reads & 5 theology reads. There’s obviously some overlap in these two categories, but I’m looking at them separately in the sense that I want to be sure I read 5 non-fiction reads that don’t fall into the theology category. (Ie, history, politics, etc.)

Other rereads

I’d like to reread quite of the few WW2-related titles on my shelf. I’ve already read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, back in January. Aside from that, and WAW/Night, which I mentioned above, I’m going to revisit The Diary of Anne Frank, and The Librarian of Auschwitz.

I’m thinking of rereading A Series of Unfortunate Events, and finally reading the ones I’ve never read (books 2, 5, & 13). 2021 reading goals

Potentially, I’m looking to reread some of the YA dystopian/action books on my shelves—The Mindwar Trilogy and The Swipe Series.

Finally, I’d really like to continue revisiting childhood favourites. I did so last Spring, and it was most enjoyable. I feel like this is the most oppurtune time to do this. If my plans for the latter half of 2021 go forward, I won’t be living at home for at least a couple of years, so this is the best time to read the books that brought me so much joy, when they’re still so accessible to me—just a few steps down the hallway from my room :’)

So far in 2021, I’ve read 3 of some of my most nostalgic books: Ginger Pye, Pinky Pye, & the one with the most brilliant title—Mr. Revere and I: Being an Account of certain Episodes in the Career of Paul Revere, Esq. as Revealed by his Horse.

For the continual expansion of my reading palette:

I read poetry, a couple of plays, and more YA fantasy last year, and I’d like to keep that up in 2021. I’d also like to read essays from Orwell & Emerson, and I very much want to read short stories from classic authors as well. I have collection of English Romantic Writers (poetry, plays, etc), and my aim is to read those frequently!

Last year, I aimed for 12-entirely-new-to-me books, and I hit that well over the mark, so my goal there is 20 new, fiction reads! *i hope i don’t speak too soon and too optimistically, lol, we all know i am the queen of rereading*
