A little background on this…
Another creative writing piece! This one is a poem. Now, I don’t have a title for it just yet. I can’t seem to settle on one I like. Honestly, if y’all have any suggestions, I would LOVE to hear them. Ya girl is stumped. Once I’ve got it, I’ll have to come back and update this. Anyways…
I wrote this poem for an English Lit class during my first year of college. We had to employ a long list of literary devices over three original poems, and this is the one I liked best. (I also wrote a sonnet and a narrative poem. Those were for jokes.) This one, though it was hard work, was so fulfilling.
*I came back and decided to name it “Wonder”!!!*
As I wrote it, it took on a whole lot of meaning, and I realised that it had become metaphorical and symbolic for so many things in my life. I’m not going to detail all of that; for one, it’s personal and special to me; for another, we would be here for a while :’) Back in July, when I went self-hosted, changed my blog name, and decided to start sharing my creative writing in this little space, I decided I wanted to share this poem right around this time of year. It isn’t seasonal, mind you, but I really hope you enjoy it nonetheless <3
“Wonder”
Happiness is as an evening Spring walk and all it entails
With the sun setting and a breeze flowing
The pinks and oranges in the sky
Fading and waning into purples and blues
Trees and flowers bending to the command of the wind
The tread of my feet, gentle and light
The fingerprints of Providence are all over dusk
Night stirs my heart
It is not uncommon that my joy deepens here
While the first of the stars twinkle in the sky
The glowing moon peeping
From behind a friendly cloud
Remind me to feel and be
The night itself smells of blue and grey
My favourite colours
My gratitude moves me to happy tears without a fear
Lucid fire alight in me
Classic Magic of the Night
Morning is coming, forward into Newness
My heartbeat is like the promise of a new day
Both a yes from my Maker
An excited calm rising up within me
Sooooo?
How did you like my poem?? Be honest, always 😉 Again, I would really appreciate some title suggestions if you’ve got any! I’ve been pretty excited to share this for so long now; I’m glad the time has finally come. If you’re ever looking to be inspired when it comes to non-fiction writing, Brevity is a great place to get your juices flowing. Thank you for reading my little piece <3
