Have I mentioned how much I adore the beach?? I specifically have a love affair with California’s central coast. More specifically, I am in love with Pismo Beach. My family and I have been going there for 10 years now, and every single year, my dream to live there grows more and more. As we’ve been going there for so long, I’ve had the absolute privilege of seeing the views of Pismo Beach at almost all stages of the day, morning, noon, evening, and night, and this year was no exception.
This year, we were there for a glorious 8 days, and I was truly living MY BESTEST LIFE. I went for a run right by the waves one morning; we spent a couple of days lolling about on the sand and getting in the beautiful ocean, and we strolled around the pier during some of the evenings.
I thought I would showcase Pismo, in all its glory, by sharing what it looks like at different stages of the day. Next year, or the next time I’m there (hopefully soon!), I’m gonna attempt to get it at dusk, nearer to the dark of night.
So, here is Pismo Beach at morning, noon, and evening. I want all of you to come and visit this place one day, and I’m crossing my fingers that these pictures make y’all wanna do that.
Morning Views

Would you look at this?! How gorgeous is the ocean during the morning hours?? The fog was in full force, but the beautiful thing about it is how it was weaving its way in and over certain parts of the beach. It wrapped itself over the pier and a little further inland, and it also hung over the ocean line, creating one of the prettiest natural frames.
This was hands down the best run I have ever experienced before. I woke up at 6 a.m., changed into my workout gear, grabbed my sweater, tied up my running shoes, and got over to the beach, which is luckily less than five minutes away from the hotel we always stay at, Oxford Suites. (10/10 recommend this place; I may be more sentimentally attached to this hotel than is normal or acceptable as we’ve stayed there 8 out of the 10 times we’ve gone to Pismo.)
I stretched out where the dry sand meets that which is hit by the waves. Next, I put in my earbuds and turned on my July JOY playlist–but not as loud as normal, because one of the beauties of running right along the coastline is being able to hear the crash of the morning surf.
Finally, I began a simple run of a mile, running half it in one direction and turning around to run the second half. Allll of my favourite beach-related songs came on as I ran; I was THRILLED!
Noon Views

One cannot simply be by the coast for a week and not spend at least a couple of days at the beach. (Please tell me some of you get the reference?!) It’s just not possible. Therefore, we made good use of our time and spent two lovely days living in pure bliss: reading, napping, tanning, and swimming in the sea.

My family got into bodyboarding a couple of years into these annual trips. We have the absolute BEST time getting really out there and riding waves all the way back to shore.
However, I must say that sometimes we have a WHALE of a time finding a good wave. (See, what I did there? Ha ha ha. I am truly the funniest person you will ever have the pleasure of meeting on God’s green earth.)
The funny thing about Pismo is that is, oftentimes, overcast and chilly–even during the summer. What’s ironic about that is that’s when we usually catch the most powerful waves. (We ventured there for another day at the start of this month, and it was a sunny 84, but the surf was really low, and I only managed to catch three realllly good waves as opposed to the 15+ I scored on the big family trip.)
In any case, this year was a delightful mix of the warm sun shining down on us to clouds that completely obstructed the sun. Luckily, both days we went came with some LUSH waves, and we all caught quite a few.

Evening Views

After our day of bowling and walking around downtown Pismo, we, of course, had to come to the pier and gaze upon the waves before heading back to the hotel for a movie & ice cream night.
There’s nothing like a post-dinner evening stroll with your family. It always amazes me how blessed I am to be in a family that genuinely enjoy each other’s company.
As usual, it was windy but warm, and there were still quite a few people surfing, swimming, or sunbathing. The sun was still warm, and a light breeze permeated everything.
Melody (my sister) & I tried to recreate a Pinterest photo, but the results were NOTHING like the original, and we could not stop laughing at how tragically hilarious the pictures actually came out.
Although I definitely have more photos, this post already has THIRTEEN, so I think I’ll cut it there. I think my favourite time of day here is the morning. However, that might change when I capture Pismo at sunset and the dusky colours light up the sky.
Out of these three pretty views of Pismo Beach, which was your favourite?? I’d love to hear it in the comments 🙂
