Let me take a moment to sigh in despair, wallow in pain, and weep at the misfortune that I’m no longer at the Central Coast—in my favourite place in the world—Pismo, California. Alright, now that that’s over, I’ll start by emphatically admitting that this is very much a first world problem, and that I’m so extremely blessed to have this “problem.”
I just spent a week (the happiest week of my year and always the highlight of it, as well) in this glorious place with my family, and this year was even better than the last. (Swear down, each new year outshines the last, and this parallels my love for this place and my desire to live there—it intensifies all the more as the years go by.)
I think I took like 1,000 photos this year; we were there for a lovely 8 days, and that’s a couple more than usual, so I had loads more pic opportunities :’) I’ve decided to pick my favourites from certain days out of this week, and I hope you enjoy them all!
Lately, I’ve been a fan of the “film” look on pics, so I tried to go for that style when I edited all of these on VSCO.
Here’s my recipe:
- choose a filter from the “For This Photo” pack
- toggle the intensity of that, so it’s at least lower than 9.0
- bring the grain up so that it’s just visible
- finally, fade it a bit—keeping it below 3.0 usually works!
I’m not sure if these pics look like “film” (let me know if you have any other tips or if these don’t look remotely like film), but I like the look nonetheless. (The quality might seem lower as well.)

Anywayyyyys, here are some pics from the day we hit downtown Pismo!
We went bowling at the arcade and ate at Brad’s for some delish seafood. I had calamari & chips, and it was soooo yum.
We walked around for a while, and I snapped so many photos. (Splash Café is bomb; my dad disagrees haha, and although we didn’t go there AT ALL this year ~a disappointment~, I had to take a pic of it because of the aesthetic my dudes :’))
And to paraphrase myself, WHAT WOULD A MACEY PHOTO SPREE EXTRAVAGANZA BE WITHOUT A PIC OF THE AMERICAN FLAG?????? Sorry for yelling lol.
Alright y’all, hope the pics were pretty and worth the accompanying light read. I hope they make you want to vacation here one day, so you can enjoy and fall in love with this place as I did when we first started coming here, 10 years ago. (Can’t believe it’s been a decade, holy guacamole.)
