As this post goes up, I’ll be eating breakfast with my family in the cabin I have the most memories in from our 20+ years worth of trips to Mount Hermon. How fitting! The last time I did a Bookish Snippets post, the theme was the sea, and it went up when I was in Pismo :’) So. Here are some bookish snippets, 7 quotes on Autumn…
Autumn’s Arrival
Autumn seemed to arrive suddenly that year. The morning of the first of September was crisp and golden as an apple.
J. K. Rowling
Okay, this one is a little “outdated,” as September has long since passed us by. Well, you’re all gonna have to deal with a few more quotes that are a little past their time, hehe. I couldn’t write this post and not include a Harry Potter reference.
If a year was tucked inside of a clock, then Autumn would the magic hour.
Victoria Erickson
How real is this?! Autumn, with all of its changing colours and vivid, brisk, evocative, feelings, is nothing short of magic.
Autumn killed Summer with the softest kiss.
d.j.
I found this quote on Pinterest, and of course, I had to pin it to both my “beautiful language” and “autumn” boards. In California, it’s more like Summer is fighting back against Autumn, and it throws a tantrum. (Every time it screams, it means another triple-digit day.) It eventually wears itself out. Then, and only then, can Autumn finally put Summer to rest :’)

More September Quotes…
Ah, September! You are the doorway to the season that awakens my soul!…but I must confess that I love you only because you are the prelude to October.
Peggy Toney Horton
I’ve seen this quote loads of times, but I hadn’t read or heard of the second half of it until I looked up the author! It’s another real mood, and it’s kind of my attitude towards June and July hehe.
September: sweet heavy scents of apple orchards — piles of leaves are tossed into the air — rakes scrape across lawns — flannels rest lazily — gusts of winds gently knock on windows — brown leaves glow gold under the warm setting sun.
No idea who wrote this beautiful imagery, so I’ve just linked the Pin I got it from. What a pretty picture this paints in my head! I luvvvv it.

November… & the briefest mention of October
It was November — the month of crimson sunsets, parting birds, deep, sad hymns of the sea, passionate wind-songs in the pines. Anne roamed through the pineland alleys in the park and, as she said, let that great sweeping wind blow the fogs out of her soul.
L.M. Montgomery
You best believe the QUEEN of descriptive word wonders, L.M. Montgomery, was going to be included in this little collection. I decided to pick something different from the typically used, albeit lovely, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers,” quote. Both are from Anne of Green Gables which I’m currently re-reading right now!
November is the pearl-grey month, the changeling between warm crimson October and cold white December, the month when the leaves fall in slow drifting whirls, and the shapes of the trees are revealed, when the earth imperceptibly wakes, and stretches her bare limbs and displays her stubborn unconquerable strength before she settles uneasily into winter. November is secret and silent.
Alison Uttley
This kinda has a dark edge to it! I definitely don’t picture November to be dark, but there’s totally something about the last sighs of Autumn that’s a little sad. I like the different, but beautiful, feel to this particular quote.
How did you all like these 7 quotes on Autumn?! I hope they gave you all the Fall-feels. Which one was your favourite? I’d love to hear what it is why you liked it so much, let me know in the comments 🙂
