I can’t believe I’ve never written up a post about a book haul before!! To be fair, I do space my book purchases far apart, so I don’t know that I would ever have enough to qualify writing up such a post. However, this past month saw several bookish purchases, so I knew that a June Book Haul was a n e c e s s a r y write up :’) Here we go!
Nan’s Pre-Owned Books
My dad & I took a little father-daughter, overnight trip right after Father’s Day, and when my dad asked me where I wanted to go, I said Pismo, because duh, this is me we’re talking about :’) I also knew I needed to stop by Nan’s on this visit.
I last mentioned Nan’s in my 2019 wrap up. The first time I went there was towards the end of last summer, on our second, albeit brief, trip to Pismo! I fell in LOVE. She has such a fab selection of allll genres, and my favourite, classics, is no exception. So, I picked up two Dickens: The Pickwick Papers, which I’m hoping to get around to this year, and A Tale of Two Cities, because HOW HAVE I NOT READ THAT YET?!?
I also grabbed another book by Charlotte Brontë because so far, I’ve read one novel per Brontë sister. I need to read more by both of them. (What I’ve read: Wuthering Heights, by Emily; Jane Eyre, by Charlotte.) I am so, so, so excited to dive into Shirley.
Not pictured (but sort of pictured below): Sense & Sensibility, by Jane Austen, as a gift for my mom, who has always, always loved the film, and hasn’t read the book in years. Northanger Abbey, by good old Janey, as a gift for my cousin, who, like myself, has read most of Austen’s books, but unlike myself, only owns one physical Austen novel.
A to Z Books
Like a fool, I forgot to actually grab this book from my shelves to add to these photos I took, but that’s okay :’) I AM REALLY, REALLY, REALLY EXCITED TO READ THIS ONE. REALLY EXCITED.
Real quick, A to Z Books is a cute used bookstore in Arroyo Grande which is a part of the Five Cities Area where Pismo & SLO are. This was my first visit there, and I will definitely be going back!
I’ve known of Tom Shippey since watching the Appendices (BTS) of the LOTR film trilogy. This man is one of the world’s leading scholars of Tolkien’s work (a living legend), and he knows and adds so so much to the entire Tolkien experience.
I’m just so ready to read (and underline, and annotate, and LOVE) this literary criticism from Tom Shippey. <333333
Barnes & Noble
My local B&N recently reopened (& they have a lovely new layout), so my sister & I just had to stop by. I needed to pick up these last two books in the Grishaverse trilogy as I had been pacing myself with Shadow & Bone. (I didn’t want to barrel through it and then not have the next two books on hand, right away. Currently halfway through Siege & Storm as a write this, and holy heck.)
I also decided to buy a new journal as I cannot even believe that I’m already coming to the end of my current one! 😮 Time, years, and wonderful memories have absolutely flown by and been documented, and now, it’s about time to fill a fresh journal with new moments.
