It’s Christmas Eve! What a month it’s been: I’ve either been on top of my posts or scrambling to write them at the last minute. In any case, I truly enjoyed my scattered take of Blogmas this year. Christmas is such a busy time of year, and it can certainly be stressful. I try to take it all in stride, remembering what the season is all about.
As this season comes to a close, I look back on all I did this month. Was I truly appreciative of those around me? Did I place proper emphasis on Jesus and His coming to earth? I think it’s so easy to get wrapped up in all the trimmings of Christmas–the movies, songs, activities, and traditions–while losing sight of the heart of it all. I can always do better in this area, whether it’s this time of year or throughout January to November.
The arrival of Christ is truly staggering. God, the vast, eternal, immeasurable King of the universe confined Himself to our very human limitations. The God who created us stooped down to our level.
The Holy Word of God–the indescribable, uncontainable God, Whom we could never fully describe even with all languages of the world; the God Who is so great that Ezekiel 1:27-28 merely attempts to describe His glory–became defined by name.
The King of kings became like us, for us. He lived as we do and was tempted just as we are, all for our sake, that He might redeem us by His death and resurrection. Hebrews 2:17 says that He was “made like unto his brethren…to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.”
Ezekiel 1:28, “As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord.”
This vast, glorious, Creator, whose glory is indefinable, is the same God of Luke 2:7, Who was “wrapped in swaddling cloths, and laid in a manger.” He came to earth in the humblest of ways; He died a painful, agonising death; and He rose again on the Third Day. All for me. All for the world.
