As I mentioned in my 2023 reading digest, I felt a bit of dissatisfaction and, now that I think about it further, a sense of vacantness from my reading last year. I am indeed glad that I finally gave contemporary fiction a proper go, but I certainly missed classic literature. What classics that I did read were entirely re-reads and nothing new-to-me. That’s my main intention for the reading year ahead!
Aiming for 60 reads total!
Classics
Actually going to up my goal slightly to 25-30, as I know I will of course be re-reading certain books but would like to make sure I get to the myriad untouched classics sitting on my bookcase. Hoping I read at least 10 new ones! Definitely would like to make 2 of those Russian (I return to The Master & Margarita) and at least 2 of them plays. Have not read a single play since 2021 I believe, yikes.
Non-fic & theology
I’m actually at the point where I’m craving historical non-fiction. I haven’t picked up a history read in quite awhile, and I certainly have more than enough to choose from on my shelves! I’d like to read at least 3 in that category. I would love to read at least one book related to writing (as a craft, how to better oneself, etc) this year. Theology-wise, I’ll be happy reading 3 come end of year, and hopefully at least 1 of those is church history/ecclesiology related. As a whole, I’d like to read 5-7 non-fiction books.
Reading habits
- I’d like to make whatever theology books I read as the end-part of my devotions each day. I’m usually pretty hit or miss with this when I’ve tried, so I’d like to be better this year. Otherwise, I’ve noticed, it takes me a lot longer to read the theology book :’)
- Hoping to finally get to a couple of childhood favourites that I’ve been meaning to read for a couple of years now
- Really, realllly want to read a substantial amount of the unread books in my personal library. Must stop buying books when I take ages to read them. On a book buying ban (we’ll see how long I last haha) until March/April.
- Kind of hoping to utilise physical library books at least somewhat in 2024. I used Libby a lot for my Kindle in 2023, which was great, but I kind of miss the romance and routine of physically going into to check a book out.
- HAVE ANOTHER TRY AT LES MIS. I miss it and also I would really like to finish it at long last :’)
